Young People Raise money for Earthquake Survivors
25th January 2010: Young people in Ballyfermot are celebrating Valentine’s Day this year by raising much needed funds for those suffering from the earthquake in Haiti.
The Base Youth Centre, Blackditch Road will be hosting a Have a Heart for Haiti @ The Base fundraising week from the 8th until the 14th of February. A range of fundraising activities will be taking place over the course of the week. The Base café will be serving full Irish breakfasts from Monday to Friday for just €5.99, with all proceeds going to Trocaire’s Haiti appeal.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night will see the Ballyfamous Talent Show take place in the Blackbox theatre. The Ballyfamous Talent Show is an eagerly awaited event on the social calendar at the Base every year and this year proves to exceed all expectations, with the talent youth of Ballyfermot showcasing their skills! Saturday sees local young musicians take to the stage to perform live music.

the Base, but are selling out fast! The week long Heart for Haiti appeal culminates in a Family Fun Day on Valentine’s Day, Sunday February 14th. Come along for face painting, massage, flower arranging, swimming at the Ballyfermot Leisure Centre, a raffle featuring some amazing prices and a performance from a special surprise guest! In order to raise the maximum amount possible, the Base is appealing to local businesses to dig deep and donate anything they can for the Heart for Haiti appeal. Donations of food for refreshments throughout the week, prizes for the raffle during the Family Fun Day or anything else would be greatly appreciated. What is The Base? The Base youth centre and childcare facility is one of the first of its kind in Europe. Through innovative and interactive programmes, services and activities, it provides a way for people to grow and develop in a safe, enjoyable and fun environment. This in turn brings about positive individual, collective and community change.
The Base supports children and young people living in Ballyfermot and surrounding areas in West Dublin. The wide range of programmes, services and activities contribute towards improving the personal, social, educational and psychological, physical and general well-being of children and young people and help them to fully engage in society. The Base is supported by URBAN Ballyfermot Ltd, Ballyfermot Local Drug’s Task Force, Health Service Executive, FAS, Young People’s Facilities and Service’s Fund, NDP, EU. Dublin City Council, which owns the property, also provides support and assistance.
