BreastCheck – the National Breast Screening Programme, is a free health service funded by the Government to offer women aged 50 to 64 a mammogram every 2 years. BreastCheck is currently inviting women aged 50-64 years living in Ballyfermot, Cherry Orchard, Chapelizod, Lucan and Palmerstown for their free mammograms. Women will be screened at the BreastCheck Mobile Screening Units in the grounds Crumlin Shopping Centre or the grounds of the Civic Offices in Clondalkin depending on their address. A BreastCheck x-ray is a simple procedure that takes approximately half an hour. The aim of BreastCheck is to reduce deaths from breast cancer by finding and treating the disease at an early stage. If breast cancer is found early, treatment is likely to be less extensive and more successful. The vast majority of women screened are found to be perfectly healthy.
BreastCheck advises all women aged 50 to 64 to make sure their name is on the BreastCheck register by calling Freephone 1800 45 45 55 or visiting www.breastcheck.ie.
Important: screening is for women without symptoms. If you have any symptoms you are concerned about please visit your family doctor immediately, even if you have had a recent mammogram.
