Ballyfermot Virtual Community (BVC) Ballyfermot Virtual Community (BVC) is a unique, innovative and powerful initiative. Using the latest in Web 2.0 technologies it is aimed at facilitating an effective ‘real time’ and dynamic communications and promotional strategy amongst and with a broad body of people that is the Ballyfermot community. BVC will continuously monitor profile and applaud a host of community, social, sporting, leisure, entertainment and economic activities within Ballyfermot in a dynamic and interactive environment. BVC will showcase Ballyfermot and herald its achievements, priorities and issues to local residents, nationally and to a global community. It will readily assist residents to source information and interact with a range of public services via the web. It will facilitate organisations and individuals to profile theirs talents and abilities. The project will be developed and implemented by FIT in partnership with the Ballyfermot IT Forum Association Achievements Of Ballyfermot IT Forum VTech Computers For Play Schools White Boards for primary & Secondary Schools Facilitator for Older People Training for large numbers of Residents Website Development & Administration Expanded IT Access Points in the community Achieved Computer access Senior Citizen
Objectives of Ballyfermot IT Forum
- To Promote awareness of the benefits of IT, increased participation and raised aspirations within the community.
- To develop new training initiatives and access programmes targeted to the needs of the broadest range of people within the community.
- To review IT resources in the area, emerging technology and the current and future needs and opportunities within the community.
- To formulate co-ordinated plans for the use of IT resources and a progressive range of IT training programmes within the area.
- To provide an IT support network for community and voluntary organisations this facilitates the sharing of best practice, technical support services and equipment.
Proposal for ICT in the Ballyfermot area 7 Whiteboards for remaining schools in Ballyfermot area (this will mean every school in the area has an Interactive Whiteboard) Training programme for Interactive Board and Personal Response Systems (PRS’s)Expand the pilot V-Tech programme for nursery groups Initiatives for Youth (support youth centres such as youth reach and voluntary community youth groups using ICTReading & Writing Software for primary & secondary schools Provide FIT My IT Interactive Educational SoftwareDigital Scholarships Students progressing from 2nd level education in Ballyfermot to 3rd level colleges will receive laptops with MS Software (30 annually) Laptop and software for every student going into fifth year in 2nd level education to research leaving cert subjects and application process for 3rd level (CAO)· Disabled Access for Existing IT Centre Automatic Doors Adjustable access for kitchen facilities Adjustable access for workspace in training areas Expanded Keyboards (have larger keys placed closely together (these can also be operated using toes instead of fingers) The ABC Keyboard layout means that the keys’ positions follow the alphabetic order, this may help beginners locate the keys easier and faster Wireless Keyboards and Wireless Optical Mice Touch Screens Centres of Excellence in ICT
